Holiday Travel Safety Tips

2. Plan for the weather. Before your trip, check the weather along the route you will be traveling. If the weather along your course is going to be inclement, find another set of directions to get you to your destination. It may not get you there as fast, but it will get you there alive.
3. Be prepared. GPS systems are often the method of choice when it comes to getting directions, but as we all know technology is often faulty. Have a set of directions printed out on paper just in case. Store some blankets, warm clothes, non-perishable food, and a first-aid kit in the trunk of your car. In the event that you do break down, you'll want to make sure you are able to keep yourself healthy and safe until help arrives.
4. Make sure your car is tuned up. The last thing anyone wants is a breakdown on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Before you leave, check your fluid levels, your tire pressure, and your tire tread. It may even be beneficial to have your mechanic check to make sure your car is in optimum condition.
5. Buckle up! According to the Farmers Insurance Y.E.S. Roadbook, only 1% of belted passengers involved in car accidents die from ejection from the vehicle, while 20% of unbelted passengers die due to ejection from the vehicle! A simple act could be the difference between life and death.
